Nearly 33 years after their last performance together, Hugo Largo have released a special box set via Missing Piece Records. Available as a three-LP or two-CD release, the set features reissues of 1988’s Drum, 1989’s Mettle and a brand new collection of material titled Unreleased and Live: 1984-1991. Hugo Largo consists of Mimi Goese, Adam Peacock, Hahn Rowe, and Tim Sommer.
The new material comes from live performances and unreleased recordings featuring the band’s iconic lineup, as well as post-1989 recordings without Sommer and with the addition of Bill Stair. Drum was originally released in 1987 on Relativity Records before being re-released the following year on Brian Eno’s label Opal Records. Mettle was then released on Opal in 1989 — both albums have long been unavailable, but have garnered cult classic status amongst avid collectors and their peers in the industry including David Byrne and Stipe himself.
“Hugo Largo remains one of the freshest and most contemporary groups of our time,” shares Stipe. “These songs are sweet lullabies for a troubled world.”
